'Boring' fashion is in at the Oscars

Where were all the extravagant, drool-worthy ballgowns befitting the Academy Awards red carpet? Was there a secret stylists' strike we didn't know about? Well, when everyone else was so basic, Watts' scaled sequin blue and purple effort - a solid B at your average awards show - easily rises to the top. Yes, even though we've already seen the long-sleeved version on Jaimie Alexander at the Emmys six months ago.

Not crazy about the feathered floral appliques, but the gorgeous sea foam hue against her alabaster skin alone is making my heart bloom.

She's been a bit of a let-down all awards season, so winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar dressed as a lemon meringue really takes the cake.

Funny how a single sleeve can single-handedly ruin an entire look. Rip it off and the whole thing becomes 100 per cent better, am I right?

S&M on top, bridal at the bottom and something epically weird going on in the middle? She can't make up her mind, but I have - and it's a big fat no.

Who'd ever thought these two would share a twin moment in any universe? In this strapless purple gown showdown, I'll give it to Fey for resisting the urge to place crinkled cabbage leaves over her chest. Her statement necklace and sleek updo help too.
