Skin is in - the latest red carpet trend has celebrities embracing semi-nude outfits. 

Daring fashion statements have not only turned up the heat, but also raised a few eyebrows, with some criticising it as "classless" and "cheap". 

Rihanna's risk-taking fashion sense showed with the sheer, bare-backed fishnet gown at the recent CFDA Awards. The Barbadian singer was named "Fashion Icon" at the New York event. 

Rihanna's sheer, bare-back halterneck left little to the imagination.

Georgia May Jagger turned heads at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art last month with a black halterneck dress with a double split - one that went down to her belly-button and another up to her thighs.

At the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto last Sunday, model Kendall Jenner's embellished gown had ​twin slits that went up to her waist. 

She later proclaimed on her Instagram: "why do one slit when you can do TWO!?". 

We're not sure if less is best but the trend has certainly courted attention, if not controversy.
