Gwyneth Paltrow promotes Korean uterus spa treatment - here are 5 seriously weird treatments ...

Gwyneth Paltrow probably had good intentions when she decided to give women health advice on her lifestyle website, GOOP.

In a nutshell: go for a steam offered by a Korean spa that apparently cleans the uterus and will also help solve many female health problems.

“The real golden ticket here is the Mugwort V-Steam.”

“You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al.”

“(Its) an energetic release – not just a steam douche – that balances female hormone levels. If you’re in LA, you have to do it.”

The Hollywood actress has been slammed for her recent efforts in playing doctor.

The Independent reported that medical doctors have dismissed her claims and frowned upon her dispensing such advice.

But what we're more interested in is, what exactly is a V-Steam?

Check out 5 of the weirdest spa treatments!

Throne: The V-Steam at Tikkun Spa.

1. Mugwort V-Steam, Tikkun Spa, Los Angeles

Mugwort leaves and flower buds are boiled and steamed and applied to a specific area of the body (perineum) for detoxification. The steam from the Mugwort is then absorbed into the body through the pores of the skin. It is supposed to be effective for women who suffer from hormonal problems, irregular menstrual cycles, headaches, fatigue and hemorrhoid discomfort.

2. Live Snail Treatment, Ci:z.Labo Salon, Tokyo

Snails are left to crawl all over the face where their mucous goes to work and rejuvenates the skin. Those who find this disgusting can opt to buy snail cream in a jar which is offered by many beauty brands.

3. Snake Massage, Israel

Live snakes slither all over the body and this irons out all the kinks in tensed muscles.

4. Human Placenta Facial Treatment, Maylande, Singapore

Men and women use placenta extracts to slow down the ageing process. Fans include celebrities. The result is supposed to be great skin that's firmer and visibly void of wrinkles, blemishes or undesirable pigmentation.

5. Geisha Nightingale Poop Facial, New York

This treatment is based on an ancient secret of the Geishas who used the excrement from a nightingale to remove their thick make-up. The mixture is said to brighten and re-texturise the skin.
