Easter feasts: More than just eggs
Wagyu beef, seafood paella and a yummy cocktail are some of the goodies available at these Easter Sunday spreads
Easter Sunday on March 27 is the best time to gather a few friends for a meal.
There are many special brunches on that day - each with alcohol top-up options - and for those with kids in tow, there will be activities to keep them entertained. Here are our picks:
SHANGRI-LA HOTEL
Every year, the creative team of pastry chefs at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore comes up with a fun theme for its special Easter Egg ($88).
This year, it is Alice In Wonderland, so you will see characters such as the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat (left), the Mad Hatter and - my favourite - the Queen of Hearts.
Turn up at an Easter party with the egg that comes with the hotel's Easter Hamper ($198), which also has shortbread, Sicilian nougat and chocolate, and you'll be the most-loved guest.
Get both items from The Easter Goodies Shop at the hotel lobby.
BRIZO RESTAURANT & BAR
Brizo Restaurant & Bar (Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Tel: 6593-8855) serves a festive spread that includes its popular seafood paella, alongside a carving station with Spanish-style roast pork belly with smoked paprika and oven slow-roasted bone-in leg of lamb with herbcrust at $55.
The little ones can take part in an egg hunt.
OPUS RESTAURANT
If you wants lots and lots of eggs, head for the Easter Sunday Brunch (from $108) at Opus Restaurant (Hilton Singapore, Tel: 6730-3390).
The egg station is one of eight live cooking stations available.
CAFE MOSAIC
At Cafe Mosaic (Carlton Hotel Singapore, Tel: 6311-8195), Easter is celebrated with goodies such as fried ice cream, hot cross buns, and pumpkin pudding melted with marshmallow.
Children can take part in the gingerbread bunny painting contest.
It's at $68 and for Citibank, UOB and OCBC cardholders, one dines free with every three paying adults.
BARNACLES BY THE SEA
The Easter Sunday Brunch ($168) at Barnacles by the Sea (Shangri-La's Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, Tel: 6371-1966) will have live carving stations and a seafood corner, but the busiest section will probably be the children's activities all around the resort.
ASH & ELM
If you are looking for something more adult-orientated, the elegant Ash & Elm (InterContinental Singapore, Tel: 6825-1008) offers brunch from $98. Brunch starts with a cocktail (there are options for free flow alcohol) and you will get a selection of the restaurant's special offerings.
CATALUNYA
Need a cocktail to get you through the long Easter weekend? Catalunya (The Fullerton Pavilion, Tel: 6534-0886) offers Rum Hunt (left, $22), an emulsified cocktail shaken with butter, black tea, Plantation Rum and falernum.
Catalunya is also offering brunch from March 25 to 27, with traditional Spanish Holy Week recipes in addition to the restaurant's signature items.
THE CARVERY
The Carvery (Park Hotel Alexandra, Tel: 6828-8880) is known for its roasts and for Easter, you'll get classics such as Australian wagyu roast beef and medium rare leg of lamb, with fluffy hot cross buns and crisp Yorkshire pudding.
Brunch is from $68.
EDGE
At Edge (Pan Pacific Singapore, Tel: 6826-8240), you will get the usual feast accompanied by unlimited Veuve Clicquot Champagne ($208) and an Easter-themed dessert corner with classics such as hot cross buns and champagne jello with strawberry pearl shooters.
If you need the children kept occupied while you drink, sign them up for the Easter egg hunt.
MELT CAFE
Easter brunch at Melt Cafe (Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, Tel: 6885-3500) is a feast of eggs, charcuteries, seafood, roasts and grills.
The Easter Bunny will also pop up for a photo op.
Brunch is from $148.
