Angela May Food Chapters: Healthy and yummy
TV personality Angela May has partnered DHM (the restaurant group that includes Forlino and L'Entrecote) and Robinsons to open a "vegetable forward" restaurant, an exciting new entry for the local culinary scene.
She farms her own herbs and vegetables for the restaurant, Angela May Food Chapters, and the food served is healthy and - for those who may still have stereotypical ideas about healthy food - not void of flavour or texture.
The space is chic, which makes it great for afternoon tea or a romantic date, and the service excellent, making you feel comfortable and pampered.
With the current retail scene slowing down, it's good to see interesting restaurant concepts in Orchard Road.
This might be what the industry needs for a revival.
The grass-fed beef tenderloin ($54) is beautifully cooked and the accompanying kale salad, with a hint of chili padi, deserves a round of applause.
I was satisfied both times I ate the charred kurobuta pork collar ($39) with its sauce (a reduction of apples and pork knuckle jus) and white bean paste.
Another winner is the elegant slow-cooked egg & tiger prawns in dou miao soup ($22).
The Jospergrilled laksa lobster roll ($42) is competent, but not exciting, a safe but bland choice.
The ginger gula melaka cake ($9 ) is a bit too sweet for me, but it's comforting. You're already eating healthily, so go ahead and indulge.
