A wife carrying world championship.... for real
There really is such a thing as a wife carrying competition.
And a Finnish couple won the 19th annual World Wife Carrying Championship Saturday (July 5), beating 35 other couples from around the world.
The competition, held in Finland, requires participants to carry their wives over their shoulders while racing through a 253.5m track, which included obstacles along the way like crossing over hurdles and wading through water pools.
This year, Finnish couple Ville Parviainen and Janette Oksman, won by the skin of their teeth. They beat British couple British couple Rich Blake Smith and Anna Marguerite Smith by a mere 1-second.
