US rapper Macklemore's always been into outlandish outfits and costumes, so it's no surprise that one has landed him in hot water.

The singer turned up at a surprise concert at a Seattle museum last week, wearing a black wig and a witch's nose.

Pictures of him at the gig went viral this week, after some thought the 30-year-old musician looked like he was making fun of Jewish people.

"Check out @macklemore performing “Thrift Shop” as a stereotypical Jewish man. So much for same love, eh?" read one tweet, while many others have called him anti-Semitic.

One fan pointed out the irony that the strongly pro-gay singer - whose song Same Love is about gay rights - could have possibly made a racist joke on stage with his costume.

The Thrift Shop singer has come out to deny the allegations of racism, saying that it was a "random costume".
