New Face 15 contestants kick off Digital Fashion Week
Dream come true for New Face 15 contestants as they walk the runway for ongoing Digital Fashion Week
The New Paper New Face 2015 runner-up R. Nametha was a bundle of nerves on Thursday.
The 17-year-old student was about to make her professional runway debut as a model at the opening show of the Digital Fashion Week at Capitol Theatre, which ends tomorrow.
But thankfully, she had company.
She told The New Paper: "I was nervous, but excited at the same time. It was great that I had my fellow TNP New Face ladies with me."
Nametha was joined by two fellow TNP New Face 15 finalists and New Face alumni such as last year's winner Diya Prabhakar and runner-up Jasmine Sim, as well as Sara Chan from 2008.
They walked for the Lianhe Zaobao SG50 Show, helmed by local fashion show producer Daniel Boey, who is also a longtime show producer of New Face.
This was also New Face 15 winner Selynna Norhisham's official gig as a model.
The 22-year-old administrative manager said: "I feel like I'm doing 17-year-old Selynna, who always wanted to be a model, proud."
Being in this show was also a dream come true for New Face 2015 finalist Ophelia Oliveiro, 22, a graduate of Singapore Institute of Management, University of London.
Although she was disappointed that she did not win a title at this year's finals, held earlier this month at Takashimaya Square, Ngee Ann City, walking at the SG50 show was a better reward.
Said Ophelia, who is 1.7m tall: "I knew that (I was) too short for runway shows. All I could do was to dream about it. To me, being on this show was a big and important gift."
Along with 19 other models, the New Face girls modelled clothes by local designers such as Gilda Su, Josiah Chua, Afton Chen and Max Tan, and designers from the fashion schools of MDIS, Nafa and Raffles Design Institute.
When the show was over, Selynna felt a sense of accomplishment.
She said: "Walking along other experienced models and big brands is really something I would have never thought I'd be able to do it in a million years.
Now that I've done it, I have to say I'm extremely proud of myself. I am excited for more to come."
Together with his team and the clients, Boey cast more than 50 male and female models for the show, and included the New Face 15 trio as they "stood out" during the competition with their "stunning beauty, stage presence, amazing walk and versatility" as well as "work ethic and professionalism".
He said: "Plus, they all have perfect clotheshanger bodies and fit sample sizes perfectly."
On their maiden Digital Fashion Week foray, Boey felt the girls "did really well alongside the more experienced castmates".
"They were confident and carried the clothes well. I took a look at some of the runway pictures and they photographed well too," he said.
