School of frock
Katy Perry cleans up nicely for Hillary Clinton and still manages to add a touch of superstar glitz to the political proceedings of the Democratic National Convention
KATY PERRY (A-)
Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia
Gown: Michael Kors
It's been so long since Perry wore anything vaguely approaching normalcy that one forgets she can be quite the elegant creature in this silver striped-and-sequined column gown with pared-down styling. There's nothing OTT, attention-seeking or costumey about it, and for that, she gets my vote.
ELIZABETH BANKS (B)
Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia
Dress: Elie Saab
Banks also eschews the outlandish for an event-appropriate frock - a cute flirty LWD featuring iridescent circular appliques - and cementing her status as yet another celebrity endorser of Hillary Clinton's. #imwithher too.
MENA SUVARI (C-)
Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Summer 2016 TCA event in Los Angeles
Dress: Aliona Kononova
One wonders how she spent the whole day not feeling bothered by that furry neckline when I'm already breaking out in a rash just looking at it.
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD (D)
Despierta America set in Miami
Top and skirt: Not known
Jurassic World's leading lady is a bona fide movie star with a lovely face and even lovelier hair, so why is she still dressing like a real person? We're also learning that butternut squash is not her colour, and skirts that come with built-in fins and flaps are nobody's friend.
LAUREN COHAN (F)
Entertainment Weekly's Comic-Con Bash! in San Diego
Dress: Not known
Cohan takes her recycling craft project made up of curtains and buttons out for one last spin before it heads to where it to truly belongs - the scrap heap.
WHO WORE IT BETTER?
CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE VS MELANIE GRIFFITH
Art Fund Museum of the Year prize ceremony in London, July 6
Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Summer 2016 TCA event in Los Angeles, July 27
This should be a no-brainer, right? Not so fast. Firstly, this Barbara Casasola off-shoulder stretch jersey dress pops better in black than cream, where you can clearly see the mesh panels and pinstripe details. Secondly, Griffith may be 58, but she's still amazingly shapely, oozing confidence and sex appeal. On the demure Duchess, the same outfit is just staid.
