School of frock
Another week, another mediocre showing from the stars. Thank goodness for the last-minute saving grace that is Elizabeth Banks
ELIZABETH BANKS (A-)
PREMIERE OF MAGIC MIKE XXL IN LOS ANGELES, US
Gown: Balmain
Clutch: Lee Savage
Shoes: Pedro García
She plays a small role as a stripper - what else - in Magic Mike XXL, but stole the premiere hands down in this eye-catching glittery yellow halter gown.
What really makes it stand out is how the black piping frames her body, giving it the perfect hourglass effect. Hot stuff.
GIGI HADID (B-)
MUCH MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS IN TORONTO, CANADA
Top, skirt and jacket: Mikhael Kale
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
The It girl of the modelling world sizzles in beaded pearlescent separates and a white patent leather moto jacket emblazoned with #HADID on the back.
You know, just in case we forget who she is. The Kardashians have taught her well.
EMILIA CLARKE (C)
PREMIERE OF TERMINATOR GENISYS IN BERLIN, GERMANY
Dress and shoes: Balenciaga
Oh Khaleesi, this is beyond disappointing. You may be the mother of dragons on Game Of Thrones, but you simply can't command our devotion off-screen.
Clarke doesn't have the right proportions for this fussy, heavily textured get-up that piles unforgiving pounds on her.
KATE BOSWORTH (D)
COACH AND FRIENDS OF THE HIGH LINE SUMMER PARTY IN NEW YORK CITY, US
Top, pants and shoes: Coach
There's hipster cool, and there's hipster cuckoo. This is obviously the latter.
And would it kill to put a brush through that hair and slap some make-up on?
LILY COLLINS (D)
CLOSING NIGHT LIVE READ OF FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH DURING THE LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL IN LOS ANGELES, US
Skirt: Gerard Darel
This blatant display of laziness just makes me mad.
That and her hideous utilitarian midi skirt the colour of puke.
LADY GAGA (F)
SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME CEREMONY IN NEW YORK CITY, US
Jacket: Not known
Shoes: Alexander Wang
Welcome back to class, Gaga. We've missed you - and your misguided sense of style. And, boy, did she try extra hard for her comeback to my list.
Wearing leather undies, a red smoking jacket, torn stockings and frightening Frankenstein-ish flatform boots to accept the Contemporary Icon Award of all things, she looks like she got mugged on her way to the event after a rough night at the Playboy Mansion.
WHO WORE IT BETTER?
DOUTZEN KROES
SCREENING OF YOUTH AT THE CANNES INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN CANNES, FRANCE, MAY 20
V
AMANDA SEYFRIED
PREMIERE OF TED 2 IN NEW YORK CITY, US, JUNE 24
So here's another long and short version of a Mugler design that's so understated, it's hard to get excited. I like how Seyfried's killer Christian Louboutin shoes complement the grommet-and-straps shoulder detail on her LBD. But cornrows? Really? Nope!
Kroes adds welcome sex appeal and fares much better, if only because she wisely left her hair alone.
MOST IMPROVED
JADA PINKETT SMITH
Smith's first outing was business on top, party at the bottom, and a dud all round. Nobody can pair a crisp white office shirt with disco-ready sequins and expect to get away with it!
Thankfully, she came to her senses and doled out one of her best efforts - a lovely poufy, textured strapless frock in a lovelier shade of citrine. It's about time she toned down the femme fatale and turned up the feminine.
GOTHAM SEASON FINALE SCREENING IN LOS ANGELES, US, APRIL 28
Skirt: Ashish
Clutch: Edie Parker
Shoes: Saint Laurent
PREMIERE OF MAGIC MIKE XXL IN LOS ANGELES, US, JUNE 25
Dress: Ermanno Scervino
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
SPECIAL MAN-TION
CHANNING TATUMPremiere of Magic Mike XXL in Los Angeles, US
Suit: Not known
Not gonna lie, I can't wait to drool over Magic Mike XXL.
In the meantime, I'll settle for covered-up leading man Tatum, who's still pretty yummy with clothes on.
