CLAIRE DANES (A-)

Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

Gown: Prada

If those giant, heavy-looking chain-link straps were digging into her skin all night long, it would have been worth it, as this was easily the coolest thing on the Emmys red carpet.

It would have been a solid "A" if Danes had gone for an edgier hairstyle instead of settling for her familiar old Hollywood faux bob.

Kristen Bell.

CARA DELEVINGNE (B+)

Premiere of Pan in London

Dress: Burberry

Shoes: Burberry Prorsum

Owning it from head to toe as usual. Her mesh and feathered LBD is very sci-fi pixie princess-meets-Black Swan, and I need those awesome cage ankle booties in my life right now.

JOANNA NEWSOM (B)

Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

Gown: Delpozo

This sculptural creation is a tricky one to pull off, but Emmy host Andy Samberg's musician missus is quite the quirky hipster herself, so I'm digging the overall weirdness.

Jumpsuit: Ulyana Sergeenko

Somewhere out there in claymation land, Gumby is suing for copyright infringement. Gorgeous colour, though.

ANNE HATHAWAY (D)

Premiere of The Intern in New York City

Dress: Rodarte

Clutch: Rauwolf

Shoes: Jimmy Choo

Hathahate may have waned, but the Hathaway style train wreck keeps chugging along. She looks like a crazy lady who went nuts with a trash bag, floor rug and Bedazzler.

HEIDI KLUM (F)

Primetime Emmy
Awards in Los Angeles

Gown and shoes:
Atelier Versace

Who knew Donald Trump was so prophetic when he shaded Klum last month with his infamous "Sadly, she's no longer a 10" quote? At first sight, I seriously thought this was something the Project Runway judge was contractually obligated to wear. You know, the winning design from the "Make an Emmys dress for Heidi Klum" episode where contestants who are either off their meds or on too many hastily assemble something in eight hours. And then we're subject to a hilariously foolish product that leaves you with no words, only the very primal responses of "WHAAAT?" "HOOOW?" and "WHYYY?"

WHO WORE IT BETTER?

It's a sad day when a try-hard like Michele can beat the usually impeccable Paltrow in the style stakes. The former's red and blue floral print strapless frock is cute enough, but positively top-grade when compared to the latter's uncharacteristically awkward get-up. From the wonky ponytail to the stiff top to the flappy bottoms that are too long and too wide, poor Goopy looks as uncomfortable as we feel.

MOST IMPROVED

LAVERNE COX

This can't be the same person right? Cox goes from being hoochie as hell to modern minimalism - and personal best - in two days. The body-skimming gown fits flawlessly, the teal is amazing against her skin and she really shines when she keeps it simple and sleek. I guess Cox is truly a pro when it comes to dramatic transitionings.

Gown: Calvin Klein

SPECIAL MAN-TION

TOM HIDDLESTON

Photocall of High-Rise at the San Sebastian Film Festival in San Sebastian, Spain

Outfit: Not known

Hiddleston doing casual chic in smart separates is as yummy as formally attired Hiddleston, so much so I will forgive the jacket's popped collar.

"The first week after I announced (my pregnancy), I was like, ‘I am wearing my highest Christian Louboutins this week’. I am not going to get mumsy!"

- English TV host Cat Deeley won’t let a baby bump get in the way of her sense of style
