Check out the Suicide Squad in full costume

It seems the writer/director of next year's Suicide Squad film has not had enough of teasing just yet.

Visit David Ayer's Twitter page and you'll find a load of pictures related to the upcoming adaptation of the DC comic book.

At first, it was just some images of the film's set and props.

Then came the photo of the star-studded cast, without costumes and makeup.

Of course Ayer did not forget the character many are looking forward to seeing on the big screen again - The Joker.

More recently, he gave us our first official look of Jared Leto as the Clown Prince of Crime in all his glory.

On Sunday (May 3), he released a photo that caused a minor geek frenzy.

Meet the Suicide Squad.

And that's not even the entire cast. Currently, Slashfilm has the best version of the image, though you don't need a huge photo to realise that missing from the line-up is Viola Davis, True Blood star Jim Parrack, rapper Common, Scott Eastwood and (of course) Leto. Leto's absence has again lead to much howling on the Internet.

Here's the lowdown on three of the standout characters.

HARLEY QUINN

Focus co-stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie look, well, like we have never seen them before as Deadshot and Harley Quinn respectively.

It is very different from her most famous role to date opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013's The Wolf of Wall Street.

This incarnation of the Joker's girlfriend draws inspiration from the New 52 comic book version. Like her comic book counterpart, Robbie's Harley Quinn is skimpily dressed and sports two ponytails.

And while some fans have bemoaned that her hair is blue, not red, Robbie's playful smile and pose are convincing.

Looks like she's all set to play the psychiatrist turned psychopath.

DEADSHOT

Ayer also offered fans a closer look at Will Smith in full deadly assassin mode.

This isn't our first time seeing a live-action version of Deadshot (aka Floyd Lawton).

The character has made appearances on TV in Smallville and Arrow.

This iteration of the villain retains his iconic cybernetic eye and is armed with so many guns he won't be short of  .

One gripe is his mask, which for some reason looks like more like something from a sporting goods store.

Maybe it would have been a better idea to go with a different colour or something more metallic.

ENCHANTRESS

In an interview with news.com.au, Cara Delevingne described her younger self as a "gremlin" and "feral kid".

Those are very fitting words for the British model's Suicide Squad look.

The film's makeup artists and costume designers have done an amazing job transforming Delevingne into the creepiest-looking member on the team.

One certainly can't accuse the film-makers of relying on Delevingne's beauty to charm audiences.
