Taylor makes swift donation to family in need
Away from the purported animosity with other stars or the speculation on her love life, Taylor Swift is also known for her work with a number of charities such as Red Cross and Unicef.
It's not just the big charities that she gives to.
The Shake It Off hitmaker donated US$15,000 (S$20,220) on Wednesday to a Texan volunteer firefighter who saved his family in a car crash on Saturday.
Mr Aaron Van Riper responded to an emergency call about a head-on collision and arrived at the accident scene only to discover that the victims were his own wife and son.
Mrs Amber Van Riper, 28, and Jonathan, seven, suffered serious injuries after their car crashed into a pick-up truck.
Although Jonathan has been discharged, Mrs Van Riper remains in critical condition at a hospital.
The devastating tale prompted over 2,200 strangers to donate nearly US$100,000 to help shoulder the burden of the medical bills via fundraising site GoFundMe.
The Van Ripers do not have health insurance.
Among the kindhearted donors was Swift, 25, who had previously donated $50,000 to New York schools.
Friends and family of the Van Ripers have taken to Mr Van Riper’s Facebook page to applaud the successful pop star, who is in the midst of her sold-out 1989 world tour, for her surprise gesture.
