Movie Review: Cooties (NC16)
Some people think children are monsters and this horror-comedy takes it to the most literal extreme.
Elijah Wood plays struggling writer Clint, who finds work as a substitute teacher alongside an eccentric faculty.
While the teachers know their primary school pupils can be quite a handful, they don't expect the young ones to turn into teacher-eating zombies.
The story follows them trying to stay alive while figuring out how the kids are infected, and it turns out that chicken nuggets are the cause of the outbreak.
The barbed jokes about food safety and how processed food can kill you are well-intended, but badly executed.
Cooties never quite decides if it is aimed at children or adults.
With its gore and savagery, it's certainly for the latter, but it needs much more than lame, juvenile gags to keep the big kids entertained.
