Movie Review: Miss You Already (NC16)
Tissue paper will be very handy.
Waterworks will come, but it's not the same audience manipulation as in a Nicholas Sparks movie.
Credit goes to director Catherine Hardwicke and her leading ladies Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore.
Collette is a standout as Milly, the former wild child-turned-doting mum who has it all - family, wealth, looks - until she is diagnosed with breast cancer.
Barrymore is equally strong as Jess, the supportive BFF, always in Milly's shadow.
There is nothing apologetic about the way Hardwicke depicts Milly's vanity and neediness. The Twilight director delivers a realistic portrait of someone who fears losing everything.
The scene where Milly and husband Kit (Dominic Cooper) break the news to their children is especially heartbreaking and well-played.
Rating: 3/5
