Movie Review: Saving Mr Wu (PG13)
There are many great Hollywood kidnap films (think Mel Gibson's Ransom and Liam Neeson's Taken), but few good ones that come out of China.
Saving Mr. Wu, based on a real-life kidnapping case in 2004, is a rare and well-crafted piece of work.
The story centres on the abduction of famed Chinese actor Wu Ruofu (Andy Lau), who, despite the cruelty of his chief abductor Zhang Hua (Wang Qianyuan), demonstrates an extraordinary cool-headedness throughout his ordeal.
It is one of Lau's most gripping movies of late and the action intensifies towards the end, with a dramatic showdown between the cops and Zhang's gang. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.
