Movie Review: The Vanished Murderer (PG13)
A sequel to 2012's engrossing The Bullet Vanishes, this period thriller, with its noir tones, is the most stylish Chinese film I've seen this year.
Veteran actor Lau Ching Wan reprises his role as righteous police inspector Song Donglu, who is assigned to track down escaped female convict Fu Yuan (Jiang Yiyan).
Fu, who used to be Song's informant, is linked to a series of mysterious suicides and Song suspects they are part of a bigger crime plot.
The Vanished Murderer, like its predecessor, is visually ravishing and boasts a fantastic movie score.
It is also boosted by solid performances from leads Lau and Jiang, whose chemistry together makes the story's twists and turns doubly fun.
Rating: 4/5
