Where are all the women?

Katy Perry topping Forbes' Celebrity 100 list only reflects the gender pay gap endemic to Hollywood and the world.

Katy Perry may have beaten rival Taylor Swift to earn the title of the world's highest-paid female entertainer, but the new Forbes' Celebrity 100 only has 16 women on its annual list.

The combined women on the list make US$809 million, compared with US$4.35 billion for the men. This reflects the gender pay gap among both celebrities and the wider society, according to Forbes.

Perry and Swift are the only women in the top 10, earning an estimated US$135 million and US$80 million pretax respectively.

Perry was highest at third, ranked after boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao whose payday from that one fight in May put them at the top of the list.

Overall, female musicians such as Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Miranda Lambert and Jennifer Lopez performed well, claiming seven of the 16 spots.

TV stars like Ellen DeGeneres and Sofia Vergara also made the cut.

But only Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson were the female representatives from the big-screen on the list that chronicles the world’s highest-paid entertainers over the past year.

A surprise addition to the list is Garth Brooks. A comeback tour has seen the semi-retired country star is way up at Number 6 earning $90 million this year, just through touring.
