10 taken to hospital after 2 lorries collide in Jurong
Ten passengers from one lorry were taken to the hospital conscious after a collision with another lorry on May 29.
Another seven people were assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said on May 31.
Police and SCDF said they were alerted to the accident on the AYE towards Tuas at about 8.30am on May 29.
Eight people were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and another two people to National University Hospital.
The 10 passengers are between 26 and 55 years old.
The 34-year-old lorry driver is assisting with police investigations.
From July 2023 to January 2024, there were 49 accidents involving lorries ferrying passengers in the rear deck, according to a parliamentary reply by the Ministry of Home Affairs in February.
A total of 168 casualties with injuries and no deaths were reported.
Passengers in the rear deck made up 127 of the casualties, and none of them was seriously injured, the ministry said.
