$5 surcharge for taxi pick-up at Mandai Banyan Tree Resort, from June 16
To incentivise drivers to pick up passengers in the underserved Mandai area, a $5 surcharge will be applied to all trips from Mandai Rainforest Resort by Banyan Tree starting June 16. This surcharge will be in effect daily, from 1pm to 11.59pm.
In a Facebook post, ComfortDelGro advised passengers to take note of the surcharge, effective from June 16, when planning trips to the resort.
Strides Premier, formed from a merger between SMRT and Premier, and Prime Taxi also confirmed a permanent $5 surcharge.
Prime Taxi told Lianhe Zaobao that the Mandai attractions and resort are relatively remote, and many taxi drivers rarely travel there to pick up passengers.
With this surcharge, Prime Taxi hopes to encourage more drivers to serve the area and help resolve Mandai's transport supply issue, said a spokesperson.
Currently, the $5 surcharge applies to attractions at Mandai Wildlife Reserve, including Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Mandai Boardwalk, Night Safari, Rainforest Wild ASIA and Bird Paradise.
Private-hire cars will not be affected by the new location surcharge. However, if the passenger chooses to book a standard taxi on the ride-hailing platform, the surcharge will apply.
