6 spices of Posh's life
What we've learnt about Victoria Beckham during her S'pore sojourn
Charming, friendly and oh-so-beautiful.
That sums up Victoria Beckham perfectly in the eyes of her fans and guests when she was in Singapore this week.
The 40-year-old brought her fashion A-game to town when she gave invited guests a look at her fashion collections at the ArtScience Museum last Saturday and On Pedder at Scotts Square yesterday (left).
But even though the English fashion designer, former Spice Girl, wife of retired soccer star David Beckham and mum of four was somewhat elusive and media access to her was limited to only a few fashion-related publications and VIPs, we managed to catch glimpses of her during her stay here, through chance sightings as well as her flurry of tweets and Instagram posts.
Here are six things we have learnt about the style icon during her Singapore sojourn.
1 SHE'S VERY MATERNAL
When some 100 fans were clamouring for her attention at On Pedder yesterday, she smiled for them, posed for selfies, signed a few books or pieces of paper before reaching out for eight-month-old Naomi Ho.
She bundled Naomi into her arms and gave the adorable baby a peck on her cheek, to "oohs" and "ahhs" from onlookers.
Needless to say, Naomi's mother, Madam Kimberley Kee, was overjoyed.
The avid Beckham fan and fashion director of fashion boutique Trixilini, 36, told The New Paper: "She said Naomi was such a cutie... I think she reminded Victoria of her own daughter (two-year-old Harper)."
Later, when Beckham introduced her guests to her new accessories collection and spoke before them, she could not resist a mention of her family.
According to the executive director of local pop culture site Popspoken, Skii Chung, 24, when asked of her biggest life achievement, Beckham said "her kids... then David".
"She said kids first because to her, David and her children are one."
2 SHE MAKES FUN OF HERSELF
Beckham's signature cool steely gaze might cancel out all hopes of a possible sense of humour.
But according to freelance fashion writer Rohaizatul Azhar, Beckham is hardly the ice queen she is thought to be.
The 29-year-old, who was one of the guests at her exclusive showcase at the ArtScience Museum last Saturday, told The New Paper: "Midway through the show, Victoria jokingly said, 'All the models look so serious, they take their jobs so seriously. It's a look I have perfected myself, according to the media.'
"The crowd burst out laughing, it was great comedic timing... she's self-deprecating but in a funny manner."
Beckham was unveiling a personal edit of her Spring/Summer 2014, Pre-Autumn/Winter 2014 and Icon collections to nearly 80 guests just hours after she touched down in Singapore.
Mr Rohaizatul, who spoke to Beckham before the showcase, said he was charmed by her "friendly and humble" nature.
"She has no diva-like attitude about her. You can tell she was tired, but she was very accommodating and open during the interview," he said.
The chance to get up-close-and-personal with Beckham also meant that Mr Rohaizatul was close enough to even catch a whiff of her scent.
"Sweet and fresh. She smelled really good," he recounted.
3 SHE SMILES FOR FANS
Gasp! It seems that Beckham's frosty non-smiling demeanour is not permanent.
Student Rafidah Ruslan, 25, actually scored a selfie with her idol when Beckham casually strolled past the Chanel store during a tour of The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands on Sunday.
She recalled: "Even though she wasn't supposed to stop to sign autographs or take photos, she still inched closer to me and smiled at my camera."
Miss Rafidah, who has been an ardent fan since Beckham's days as Posh Spice of the British girl group Spice Girls, said the experience was "a dream come true".
After her brief walkabout, Beckham was said to have had dinner at restaurant Waku Ghin by Tetsuya Wakuda at Marina Bay Sands.
4 SHE CAN'T RESIST SHOPPING FOR OTHER BRANDS
Beckham and her entourage were spotted around noon yesterday enjoying some retail therapy at Ion Orchard (above).
While it is unclear what the total damages were at the end of the day, she was seen carrying a paper bag from Miu Miu.
5 SHE MIGHT SING AGAIN... OR NOT
During her stay here, Beckham was pictured on Instagram a few times with a familiar prop from her past - a microphone (above).
In one photo, she mock-sang into it while sitting on top of a piano. In another, she lay sexily on top of it. She captioned the latter: "'Singapore singers' has expanded to a trio! @kenpaves and @sarahluceroglam", referring to her hairstylist Ken Paves and make-up artist Sarah Lucero.
Is Beckham hinting at a solo return to music, or gasp!, a reunion with Scary, Baby, Sporty and Ginger?
It remains a mystery amid rumours that the Spice Girls will reunite for a Las Vegas residency without her.
6 SHE'S A VICTIM OF FASHION MISHAPS
An accidental tear on a dress? A broken zip? Even the ever-flawless Beckham can relate.
She took to Instagram last Sunday to post a photo of her "broken top" - with a clear view of her sizeable cleavage.
She captioned the photo: "Where is a seamstress when u need one?"
It also seemed like Beckham was having a hard time taming her mane in our humid weather, as several of her tweets include the hashtag #fightthefrizz, while commenting on how "hot" it is in Singapore.
