7 die after trying to retrieve 90 cents from well in Cambodia
Seven people died after a man dropped 3,000 riel (S$0.90) cents into a well on Saturday night.
The man's daughter said that her father had accidentally dropped the money when taking water from the well, in a remote area of the northwestern province of Siem Reap.
And his family, including his 13-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son, and neighbours helped, too.
But the lack of oxygen caused them to faint and die in the well, which was 5 metres deep.
The man's daughter, Che Chhan, told Koh San Tepheap Daily that the amount of money was "huge" for their poor family so it was important to retrieve it.
