Ang Mo Kio beer server gets $160 cash-filled cake, 50 cases of beer from customers on birthday
Customers supported her business by purchasing over 60 bottles of beer, a week's worth of sales.
Dozens of customers threw a birthday bash for a beer server at an Ang Mo Kio coffee shop, complete with a cake hiding more than $100 in cash and enough beer orders to cover her week's sales.
According to Shin Min Daily News, a video circulating online showed the celebration taking place on Oct 2 at a coffee shop at Block 526 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10.
More than 30 loyal customers reportedly turned up with seven or eight cakes, one of which contained the hidden cash as a "surprise", while also buying 50 cases of beer to support her business.
Cake hid $160 in cash
Guests, mostly men, gathered around a table to sing the birthday song and take photos with the server, who was dressed in her white work uniform.
One clip showed her blowing out candles before revealing a garland of cash hidden inside a cake, amounting to about $160.
When reporters visited the coffee shop on Oct 3, the beer server introduced herself as Chen Cai Cai, and confirmed that she had turned 37 the day before.
She said she had invited some regular customers, while others had come of their own accord to join the celebration.
Customers surprised her with numerous birthday cakes, each featuring a unique design.
One had a fondant beer can pouring into a mug, while some bore Chen's name, "Cai Cai", and three sets of numbers that inspired some guests to buy 4D lottery tickets.
"We took photos, chatted, sang songs and blew out candles together. It was very lively," she said.
Sold over 50 cases of beer
Chen, who has worked in Singapore for more than 10 years, said she previously sold beer at another nearby coffee shop before moving to the one at Block 526 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 about a year ago.
Many of her regular customers followed her there, and over time, they became close.
She said she was deeply touched by their support.
"On normal days, I only sell a few cases. Fridays and weekends are slightly better, maybe over 10 cases a day. Selling over 50 cases in one night is about a week's worth of sales. I'm really thankful to everyone for their support," she said.
