Gmail users, be afraid.

Almost 5 million usernames and passwords were leaked to a Russian Bitcoin forum yesterday, Russian media reported.

In a statement, Google said: "The security of our users' information is a top priority for us.

"We have no evidence that our systems have been compromised but whenever we become aware that accounts may have been, we take steps to help those users secure their accounts."

It was also reported that much of the information is out-of-date. Many of the accounts have been matched to old passwords.

Security steps

Some users also said the passwords matched to their account were used for other non-Gmail accounts.

To check if your account has been compromised, enter your email in this website.

Even if you're not among those hit, users are encouraged to change passwords and enable two-step verification for the account.
