Astronaut tweets his saddest photo - Israel-Gaza conflict from space

This article is more than 12 months old

Floating high above the surface of the earth, German Astronaut tweeted a photo from his twitter account that unfortunately has more than a tinge of sadness in it.

Astronaut Alexander Gerst is currently spending six months in the International Space Station (ISS).

Along with the photo Alexander Gerst wrote in his tweet.

My saddest photo yet. From #ISS we can actually see explosions and rockets flying over #Gaza & Israel.

According to his tweet, the space station was orbiting above the conflict zone, the fighting was so prevalent that Gerst was able to actually see the explosions from space.

AFP reported that in the 17 days of fighting, at least 718 Palestinians, mostly civilians while 32 Israeli soldiers have been killed since July 17.

As officials look for way to call for a truce, hopefully that there wont be anymore of such photos from Gerst in the new future.
