BCA orders Kranji warehouse ravaged by fire on Feb 19 to be closed off
The owner of the buildings in Kranji ravaged by fire for nearly nine hours on Feb 19 has been ordered to close off access to affected structures.
In response to queries, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) on Feb 21 said inspections found the metal roof in a single-storey warehouse and part of the roof of a two-storey office building to have collapsed in the aftermath of the fire.
Nearby buildings, however, were not affected.
BCA said it has instructed the owner of the affected buildings to appoint a professional engineer to assess the structures and recommend immediate safety measures to mitigate risks.
The professional engineer will also be required to carry out a detailed investigation and propose permanent rectification works.
One person was taken to hospital for burn injuries and smoke inhalation after the fire broke out at the premises on the morning of Feb 19.
It was the fourth time since March 2018 that a fire has broken out at the warehouse, said the National Environment Agency on Feb 20.
The warehouse is located at the listed address of recycling and waste management firm Wah & Hua.
