BMW driver who crashed into traffic light arrested for drink driving

The incident occurred at the intersection of Nicoll Highway and Sims Avenue.

A man driving a BMW allegedly failed to stop for a police check and accelerated away, only to crash into a traffic light at an intersection.

He was later arrested for drink driving and driving while his license was suspended.

The incident occurred at 1.45am on Sept 13, at the intersection of Nicoll Highway and Sims Way.

TikTok user panghu12395 shared a video of the aftermath of the incident, which had gained 160,200 views and 1612 likes at press time.

The 13-second clip shows a black BMW on a road divider after it collided with a traffic light pole that held a street sign.

Two police motorcycles are parked nearby, with debris scattered on the floor. The door on the driver's side of the BMW is also open, and its airbags have deployed.

In response to queries from The New Paper, police said that traffic police officers were patrolling along Beach Road when they signaled for a car to stop. The vehicle sped away and subsequently crashed into a traffic light.

The 44-year-old male driver was conscious when taken to the hospital. He was arrested for drink driving and driving under disqualification.

Investigations are ongoing.
