Bystanders save elderly man who collapsed after bleeding

The man was revived with the help of CPR and a defibrillator.

A member of the public came to the aid of an elderly man who collapsed after bleeding from his mouth and nose, resuscitating him and using a defibrillator.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place on Oct 27, at around 1.30pm, outside an optical shop on the first floor of Admiralty Place.

Photos circulating on social media show a large crowd gathered at the scene, as paramedics attend to the man.

Swift public action

A shop assistant told reporters who visited the scene on the evening of Oct 27 that the elderly man, who looked to be in his 80s or 90s, appeared frail.

He suddenly started bleeding from his mouth and nose before collapsing, causing alarm among nearby shoppers.

"People immediately rushed to help," the shop assistant. "A woman in blue performed CPR for over 10 minutes, and others fetched an automated external defibrillator (AED) and called an ambulance."

The assistant described the scene as chaotic, with passers-by rushing to help. Some asked others to step back to give the elderly man room to breathe. He eventually regained consciousness.

30-Minute rescue effort

Another employee from a nearby shop said the rescue lasted about 30 minutes before paramedics arrived and took the elderly man away on a stretcher.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed it was alerted and that the man was transported to Woodlands Health Campus.
