Car waits patiently while otters 'chill' on road in Toa Payoh
The TikTok user told The New Paper the otters were "unfazed" by a car that had stopped right in front of them.
A car driver was seen patiently waiting as a group of otters lounged in the middle of a road in Toa Payoh, according to a TikTok video that has gone viral.
The clip shows several otters appearing oblivious to the vehicle until a bus and truck approached from behind.
Three otters then got up and scurried onto the pavement.
Otters 'up to no good'
In response to queries from The New Paper, the TikTok user, who only wanted to be known as Ms J, said the incident happened around 6pm on Aug 11 while she and her children were crossing from Bishan to Toa Payoh.
"I thought it was really cute that the otters were oblivious to the inconvenience they were causing," she said.
She added that the otters had been dashing and rolling around on the road, seemingly "unfazed" that a car had stopped right in front of them.
"I believe they were trying to use the zebra crossing on the filter lane to cross Braddell Road," she said, adding that a later video showed them attempting the crossing but retreating when the coast was not clear.
While she has spotted otters in the neighbourhood before, this was the first time she had seen them "up to no good". She also suggested the group could be the well-known "Bishan family" of otters.
Ms J added that she had not realised the car was in a bus-only lane when she posted the video.
"It was just a funny sight to me that traffic stood still for these mischievous otters and I hope the car doesn't get into trouble," she said.
'Kind soul': Netizens
The video has since drawn close to 50,000 views and more than 70 comments, with many netizens praising the driver for their patience.
"Kind soul," one user wrote, while another added: "Thank you very much for those super kindhearted and patient drivers."
One commenter quipped that the car had protected the otters by blocking the bus.
However, some pointed out that the vehicle should not have been in the bus-only lane. "The car should not be there in the first place," one said.
Others remarked that they had never seen such a layout before. "Very interesting, quite a rare left turn with two types of lanes," another user commented.
