Another 40 locations with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will start operating across the island from April 15 to deter illegal parking, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday.

This will bring the total number of locations where CCTV cameras are installed to 70 since the scheme began last April.

For easy identification of the CCTV monitoring zones, LTA has painted lamp posts or signposts within the affected areas with bright orange vertical strips.

In addition, "No Waiting" signs have been installed at passenger pick-up points with CCTV cameras to remind motorists that they are not allowed to wait at these pick-up locations, which include places near Bishan and Clementi MRT stations.

LTA added that it will call a tender to install and operate CCTV cameras at 60 additional locations, which is expected to be completed by mid-2017. This will bring the total to 130 locations islandwide.

LTA said that with the implementation of CCTV cameras beginning last April, it has "observed improved traffic flow and fewer cases of obstruction on the roads at these locations".
