Cleanup after ships collide in S'pore Strait

A cleanup operation is on after two ships collided in the Singapore Strait yesterday afternoon, spilling some 80 tonnes of bunker fuel.

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said a collision had occurred between the departing Liberia-flagged containership Hammonia Thracium and the Panama-flagged chemical tanker Zoey off Sebarok Island, about 10km south of mainland Singapore.

Hammonia Thracium reported that one of its bunker tanks was damaged, resulting in the spillage. MPA sent four patrol craft to deal with the spillage and is investigating the incident.
