'Continue singing': Resident surprises singing painter with snacks and praise in heartwarming exchange
"He finds the joy in the hard work that he does by singing," wrote the resident in her TikTok video.
A video of a foreign worker with a voice like Ed Sheeran - and a resident's thoughtful response to his singing - has melted hearts online.
TikTok user @tamssst shared the clip of a painter belting out All of the Stars as he worked on the exterior of her flat, captioning it: "Who knew painting could sound this good? Thank you to our migrant workers for building Singapore."
The video was subtitled: "Saw some guys painting the block today. Thought it was probably a Spotify playlist, but it was this guy's actual voice!"
Posted on Oct 17, the clip has drawn more than 240,000 views, 14,800 likes and 250 comments at press time. It was also reposted on Facebook page Singapore Incidents, where it received nearly 1,200 reactions, and on Reddit with the title "We want more migrant workers like this please!" - earning more than 175 upvotes.
Most netizens found the video wholesome, praising the worker's singing. When @tamssst asks if he's Thai, he nods, though some commenters suggested he might be from Myanmar.
"With that voice he can make it as a singer. All he need is someone to open a door for him. Wish best of luck," said a TikToker.
"Born a singer, forced to be a painter," another quipped.
But it was @tamssst's kindness that resonated most. In the video, she offers the worker a small packet of snacks, compliments his singing and encourages him to keep at it.
"You sing very good. Continue singing, it's very nice!" she said.
A TikTok user said: "You can tell someone has a pure heart when they never look down on others, no matter their status. She has such a pure and kind heart."
"Great job girl, for handing them some snacks and giving him the encouragement," said another.
Yet another said: "God bless your heart for being nice to foreign workers... not all can be as nice as you."
Not every comment was positive, though. One Facebook user wrote: "Doesn't sound nice. Your compliments are exaggerated. If this was Spotify, I'd cancel my subscription."
There were cheeky remarks too, such as: "Ask him paint wall, he go sing songs. Deduct his salary."
