Couple host wedding buffet in HDB corridor, netizens praise 'kampung spirit'

"Save a lot of money, good," a commenter wrote.

A couple has earned praise from netizens for celebrating their wedding with buffet dinners held over two evenings in their HDB flat and along the common corridor, sharing the occasion with family, friends and neighbours.

A video uploaded by @singaporeincidents on Instagram showed tables and chairs set up inside the flat and along the corridor, with the buffet spread laid out for guests.

When reporters from Shin Min Daily News visited the unit at Block 489B Tampines Street 45 on Oct 5, the setup had already been cleared, and the homeowners declined to be interviewed.

A nearby resident, who only wished to be known as Ms Lim, said the couple hosted the buffet dinners on Oct 3 and 4, inviting many neighbours.

She noted that the celebrations took place in the evenings and that no loud music was played, so there was no disturbance.

Ms Lim added that the couple had left for their honeymoon the previous morning.

Another resident, who only wished to be known as Mali (transliterated), said the couple were well-prepared over the two days of celebrations, even providing fans to help guests cope with the hot weather.

She added that she was happy to see weddings being hosted in this way.

The Instagram video was captioned: "Wah, we love this kind of wedding", and had garnered over 1,000 likes and 118 comments at press time.

Many netizens praised the wedding celebrations for showcasing the "kampung spirit".

One commented: "Save a lot of money, good." Others said they liked the concept, describing it as "simple but filled with tradition."
