Cyclist swerves into car lane, narrowly avoids crash thanks to alert driver
A cyclist has the alertness of a driver to thank for keeping him alive.
In a dashcam footage shared in the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, the cyclist is seen swerving into a car lane without checking for traffic, narrowly avoiding a collision.
The incident happened on Feb 17 at 8.30pm, at the exit of the Sentosa Gateway Tunnel leading towards Keppel Road.
The cyclist, who appears to be a young male, was riding without wearing a helmet.
As a car was exiting the intersection, the cyclist abruptly cut across two lanes into the vehicle's path without looking.
Fortunately, the driver braked in time to prevent an accident. The cyclist glanced back at the car before making his way to a nearby bus stop.
The video has sparked a heated debate among netizens, with many criticising the cyclist's reckless behaviour.
One netizen pointed out that if an accident had happened, the driver would be painted as the perpetrator and the cyclist as the victim.
Another recounted a similar experience with a cyclist, saying: "I encountered many types of cyclists, some coming out onto the zebra crossing without checking if it's safe to do so first."
However, one netizen defended the cyclist.
"You have to slow down before getting on the main road. Anyways, he's just a kid cycling anyways. Just honking at him is enough."
The netizen continued: "The kid is clueless. If you were to hit him, I'm sure you would feel guilty."
