Earlier reports said that an Australian man was found dead in Bali with his throat slashed.

But now the victim has been identified as 60-year-old British national Robert Kelvin Ellis.

"The body was found found covered with plastic and bed quilts," said Detective Wisnu Wardana.

AFP reported that the victim was found on Tuesday (Oct 21) and was already in a state of decay when it was discovered in a village between the tourist areas of Ubud and Kuta.

Police also believe that the victim had died more than 24 hours before his body, found next to a paddy field, was discovered by locals.

Police said Mr Ellis was living at a villa in the tourist area of Sanur for some years and his Indonesian wife had earlier reported him missing.

Wife in custody

Authorities confirmed that she has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

A spokesman at the British embassy in Jakarta said: "We were notified of the death of a British national in Bali.

"We stand ready to provide consular assistance."

This incident comes not long after the body of an American tourist was found stuffed in a suitcase outside a hotel on the island in August.

The victim’s daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend were subsequently arrested over the killing.
