'Does anyone know this SG uncle?': JB laundry shop seeks help to find man who took clothes without paying

Shop owner Wong Pei Yu told The New Paper the family did not make a police report as the amount was "not very much."

A laundry shop in Johor Bahru has turned to social media for help identifying a man - said to be Singaporean - who collected his clothes but did not pay.

The incident was shared on Facebook on Oct 12 by user Pei Yu, who said the man entered the shop alone to collect his laundry while no staff were around.

Wong Pei Yu, 22, told The New Paper that her mother owns the laundry shop in Taman Sentosa, Johor Bahru.

Man seen on CCTV leaving laundry shop without payment

CCTV footage from the shop, which has been circulating online, shows the man attempting to scan the shop's QR code, but no payment is received.

The timestamp on the footage indicates that the incident took place on Sept 27 around 1 pm.

Ms Wong said the man did not leave any contact number and even took the receipt attached to his clothes. "It's been two weeks, and he still hasn't come back to make payment!" Ms Wong writes in her post.

Shop decides not to call police, says amount 'not very much'

Many Facebook uses criticised the man, calling him a "cheapo" for not paying his bill.

"Send him back to JB and let him sit in a Malaysian jail," one commented.

However, Ms Wong told TNP that her family did not lodge a police report, as the amount of money involved was "not very much".

Some netizens also questioned how Ms Wong knew the man was Singaporean.

She explained that her mother recognised him as a repeat customer who had washed his clothes at the shop a few times and identified him as Singaporean.

Customer entered through shared gate while closed

Others asked why no staff were present at the time. Ms Wong said the shop was closed that day, but there was "a hole in the gate" shared with another business - a salon - which was open.

The man had apparently entered the laundry shop through that opening to collect his clothes.

Following the incident, Ms Wong said she has asked the salon to place a chair at the shared entrance to block entry when the laundry is closed.

The shop is now appealing for anyone who recognises the man to remind him to return and settle his bill.
