A 53-year-old male driver has been arrested for his suspected involvement in causing the oil spill that eventually led to the closure of Paterson Road on Thursday morning (Jan 15).

As a result of the spillage, there was heavy traffic build-up near Newton Circus and Tanglin Road towards the direction of Orchard Road.

The traffic police said in a statement that investigations pinpointed them to the driver, who was identified at Woodlands Checkpoint at about 3pm on Thursday.

He was placed under arrest for causing hurt by negligent act.

If convicted, he could face a jail term of not more than six months, or pay a $2,500 fine or both.
