Drunken woman who slapped, attempted to bite policewoman jailed

Hong Cai Luan (transliterated) also assaulted nightclub staff and continued to be aggressive even after being arrested.

An intoxicated woman who assaulted a female police officer by slapping her and attempting to bite her, has been sentenced to 11 weeks' jail.

Hong Cai Luan (transliterated), 39, was sentenced on Oct 21, after pleading guilty to one charge under the Protection from Harrassment Act.

Another four charges will be taken into consideration at her sentencing.

Assault that led to the arrest

According to Shin Min Daily News, court documents revealed that the incident took place at around 7pm on February 8, 2024, when Hong was dining with a friend at a restaurant along Robertson Quay.

Hong had consumed two bottles of red wine before going to a bar for several shots of hard liquor. After that, the pair went to a nightclub at Clarke Quay and ordered a bottle of champagne. Hong was already visibly drunk at the time.

At around 1am, she climbed onto the club's stage and sound equipment, shouting at staff members who tried to stop her and kicking one of them in the chest.

Security officers escorted her to the reception area when she lashed out again, punching a security guard in the face and slapping another staff member, knocking off his glasses.

Assault continued during arrest

Police were called to the scene. As officers tried to calm her down, a female officer approached and grabbed her arm when Hong suddenly turned and slapped her. She was subsequently arrested.

While being taken to Police Cantonment Complex, Hong continued to be aggressive inside the police vehicle, hurling vulgarities at officers. She even attempted to bite the policewoman's left forearm, but the officer managed to dodge.

At the police station, Hong continued her attempts to bite and kick the same officer while shouting.

Her actions and behaviour were captured on both CCTV and police body cameras, which formed key evidence leading to her charges and sentencing.
