Expectant mums use organ of their own mothers
After the first successful womb transplant in Sweden, two more women are expected to give birth soon — using transplanted wombs donated by their own mothers.
The expectant mums will be the first to carry children using the very uterus that carried them as unborn infants.
They are due next month.
It is part of a path-breaking project in Sweden which allows women to fulfil their dreams of starting a family, Mail Online reported.
The world’s first womb swap baby, Vincent, was born last month. The baby was delivered using an unrelated donor.
The extraordinary procedure means that each womb will have carried two generations of the same family.
Dr Liza Johannesson, of Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, said: “It is really exciting to have your mother as a donor. It is a very nice gift to give to your daughter.”
