Former President Halimah Yacob has slammed a video circulating online, calling it a deepfake that falsely portrays her allegedly making negative remarks about the Government.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 15), Madam Halimah said the video even managed to capture her voice and warned about how AI is being used to influence voters during the election period.

Fight fair during the election: Halimah

"This is scary," she wrote. "Let's maintain some decorum, decency and fairness when you participate in this election, regardless of which side you are on."

She added that elections shouldn't be fought with "dirty tactics like this", but based on the strength of one's vision, and the ability of candidates to see that vision through.

"It's not a one-off boxing match," she added. "After the GE, we still have our people and their future to think of."

She also said she'd be filing a police report and deliberately chose not to attach the video to avoid spreading it further.

Madam Halimah served as Singapore's President from 2017 to 2023, and was previously Speaker of Parliament and a Member of Parliament under the People's Action Party.
