That free round-the-world trip for a Canadian named Elizabeth Gallagher? It's been taken

This article is more than 12 months old

Remember the guy who was looking for a Canadian named Elizabeth Gallagher he could give a round-the-world trip to?

Well, the good news is, he's managed to find someone. The bad news? It isn't us.

The National reported that he had replies from dozens of people with the name and hundreds more who wanted to change their name to Elizabeth Gallagher.

He picked 23-year-old Elizabeth Gallagher, a part-time student from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, after talking to her on the phone and learning about her volunteer work.

Mr Jordan Axani had booked an epic holiday in May with his girlfriend, whose name is Elizabeth Gallagher.

The 27-year-old managed to snag a good deal for the tickets. But that meant he couldn't change the name on the ticket.

Which was fine and all... until the couple broke up.

So Mr Axani took to Reddit last month to find a stranger he could give the ticket to.

"I hate the idea of a ticket around the world going to waste, so I am looking for a Canadian named Elizabeth Gallagher who could use the ticket," he wrote then.

He claimed there were no strings attached.

"I am not looking for companionship, romance, drugs, a trade, or to take selfies with you in front of the Christmas Market in Prague."

Less creepy, more awesome

Miss Gallagher told The National: "She (my aunt) sent me a message saying, 'oh my goodness, if you don't go on this trip, you're crazy'."

The Telegraph reported her as saying: "It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning, but now that I talked to him, it's less creepy and more awesome.

"This is totally as friends. I have a pretty serious boyfriend. We've been together for a while."

Here's the itinerary of the round-the-world trip she's getting for free.

  • December 21: New York City to Milan
  • December 28: Prague to Paris
  • December 29: Paris to Bangkok
  • January 7: Bangkok to New Delhi
  • January 8: New Delhi to Toronto

It wasn't that easy to earn the ticket though.

Miss Gallagher told CTV News she had to fill a "pretty long" questionnaire and go through a Skype interview.

"I almost dropped out," she said. Well, aren't you glad you didn't.
