GE2025: SM Teo leads walkabout on Pulau Ubin with MPs and newcomer Valerie Lee
A PAP team led by Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean visited Pulau Ubin on April 11 to reach out to residents on the island, which will be part of the newly drawn Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.
Party newcomer, Ms Valerie Lee - who has been spotted in several community outreach events in Pasir Ris and Punggol, was present as well. She joined Pasir Ris-Punggol MPs - Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Desmond Tan, Senior Minister of State (Digital Development and Information and Health) Janil Puthucheary, and Mr Sharael Taha as well as party volunteers.
In the upcoming General Election, Pulau Ubin will be subsumed under the new boundaries for Pasir Ris-Changi GRC according to the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee report released in March.
Currently, the island - the second largest off mainland Singapore - is under the care of Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Maliki Osman, who overseas Siglap as part of the current East Coast GRC. He was not seen with the PAP team on Apr 11.
The new Pasir Ris Changi GRC, combines most of the Pasir Ris estate and the Changi portion from the current Pasir Ris-Punggol and East Coast GRCs respectively.
The four-member GRC will see about 100,639 voters in this year's GE with the East Coast portion - covering Changi, areas of Loyang as well as offshore islands Pulau Ubin and Tekong contributing 12,871 voters.
According to media reports, there are about 70 homes in the island known for retaining its kampung charm with more than 30 residents living there.
In the last elections, residents had to take a ferry over to mainland Singapore to cast their votes in polling stations at Pasir Ris on polling day.
