At about 11pm on April 25 in Woodlands, Madam Rasyidah Roslan unlocked the GetGo car she had rented using the app on her smartphone.

She told her five-year-old daughter to get into the backseat and the girl did as she was told, closing the door after her.

Madam Rasyidah handed her son to her husband and walked over to the driver's seat.

But the door was locked, just like the rest.

Madam Rasyidah and her husband tried to open the doors but they would not budge. She tried to unlock the car using the app but she received an error message.

"My daughter was already crying and I tried to remain calm while trying to calm her down," she wrote in a Facebook post.

Madam Rasyidah contacted GetGo and the personnel on the phone tried to unlock the car remotely but failed.

After 20 minutes of unsuccessful attempts to unlock the car, Madam Rasyidah decided to call the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

GetGo said it would be sending someone over but it would take 45 minutes for the person to arrive.

The SCDF prised open the driver's door and freed Madam Rasyidah's daughter.

In one of the videos shared by Madam Rasyidah, her daughter looked shaken, her eyes red and swollen from crying.

GetGO told Shin Min Daily News that it was the first time such an incident had occurred and that the company was investigating into the malfunctioning locking system.

The affected vehicle was been removed from the platform and the company would review its emergency protocol to improve response efficiency.

GetGO added that the customer was not liable for the incident.
