Half-naked man goes on drunken rampage at MBS, hurls fire extinguisher and rubbish bin

"Everyone just watched," said J, a bystander who spoke to The New Paper exclusively

A man clad in just his underwear was spotted going on a drunken rampage at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) in the early hours of Aug 9.

The incident, captured on video by a bystander at 4.40am, has since gone viral online.

In the video, the man is seen removing a fire extinguisher from a stand by a railing before hurling it over a glass railing.

The camera then pans to the canal below, where a rubbish bin and some clothing items can be seen floating.

The bystander who recorded the incident, who only wished to be known as J, said that it took place at Basement 1 of MBS, near the MRT entrance.

The 25-year-old told The New Paper that he had just finished supper with friends at Hai Di Lao and was walking towards the taxi stand when they spotted the man and heard some noises.

"We saw him throw a rubbish bin and a fire extinguisher, after which he proceeded to the MBS reception near the MRT and continued trashing and punching the queue poles," he said.

He added that there were many people on the first floor watching from above, but they did not appear "fazed".

"Everyone just watched," said J.

A second video, sent to TNP by J's friend, shows the man trashing the queue poles.

J noted that another man removed a fire extinguisher before the suspect could throw it into the canal, though he was unsure if the person was a security guard.

"He was just throwing things," J said, pointing out that the man did not appear to be intending to hurt others.

A statement from the police confirmed that they received a report at around 4.40am, asking for assistance at 8 Bayfront Avenue.

A 31-year-old man was arrested for drunkenness in public places. No injuries were reported, and police investigations are ongoing.

MBS declined to comment.
