'He gave my son a second chance': Woman seeks passer-by who saved drowning boy in hotel pool

The mother of a four-year-old boy who nearly drowned in a hotel swimming pool is seeking the passer-by who resuscitated him and brought the boy back from the brink.

"We can't imagine what the outcome would have been, if it weren't for him. He gave my son a second chance at life," said Mrs Wang, who posted about the incident on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu.

It occurred on the morning of Aug 10 at the Pan Pacific Singapore swimming pool at Raffles Boulevard. One or two passers-by rushed to the aid of her son Jasper (transliterated), who had run into trouble in the water.

"The incident happened on the day we were checking out, and my son was not alone in the pool at the time," Mrs Wang told Shin Min Daily News. "After it happened, I was in such a state of panic that I didn't notice who helped. I just took my son to the hospital immediately."

CPR and first aid was performed by a male tourist until Jasper regained consciousness, and the boy was later taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Mrs Wang said her son was hospitalised for two days, and was discharged on Aug 12 after making a full recovery. Her family remains hopeful of finding the male tourist who resuscitated Jasper, as they want to thank him in person.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they received a call for assistance and transported one person to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

Pan Pacific Singapore had not responded to Shin Min's queries by press time.

Male tourist noticed the boy in time

A hotel guest who witnessed the incident shared a photo of several people gathered around the pool, identifying the quick-thinking bystander as a male tourist in a black shirt and a baseball cap.

He later told the witness, who declined to be named, that he was especially alert because his own daughter had a near-drowning experience.
