Heavy rain overturns tables, chairs at Marina Bay Sands pop-up market

The market operated from 5pm to 11pm, as scheduled.

A heavy storm on Sept 7 overturned tables and chairs set up for a pop-up charity market at Marina Bay Sands.

The Giving Marketplace, featuring booths from non-profit organisations and small businesses, ran from Sept 5-7 as part of the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival.

A reader alerted Shin Min Daily News to the aftermath of the storm, with photos showing overturned tables and chairs and toppled umbrellas. Parts of the event's barricades were also knocked over by the wind.

When reporters arrived on the scene at 11am on Sept 7, the market was not yet open. The area was cordoned off, and no vendors were present.

An inspection of the site showed that the tables and chairs had been rearranged, with three damaged umbrellas placed neatly on the ground.

The market operated from 5pm to 11pm that day, as scheduled.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story stated that a storm forced the closure of the pop-up market on its last day. The market operated as scheduled. We are sorry for the error.
