Helper jailed for lodging false rape report against ex-employer's husband
The woman did so in order to end the affair she was having with the man.
To end the affair she was having with her employer's husband, an Indonesian domestic helper filed a false police report against him, claiming he had raped her.
On Oct 14, the woman was sentenced to a week's jail after pleading guilty to one charge of giving false information to a police officer.
She cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the man's identity.
Court documents showed the family hired the helper in May 2023 to care for their month-old son.
The affair started in September 2024.
On Feb 25, the Indonesian national lodged a police report claiming the man had sexually assaulted her more than once. And that he would turn off the CCTV in the flat and touch her inappropriately.
While at KK Women's and Children's Hospital for a medical examination that day, the woman told a police officer that she had accepted extra "pocket money" of between $50 and $100 from the man, but maintained that the sexual acts were non-consensual.
At around 10.30pm, the police interviewed the man, who said the sexual acts were consensual.
The woman, who was being interviewed by the police in a separate room, admitted at about 11pm that she had lied because she felt guilty and wanted to end the affair.
She also suspected the man's wife knew about their relationship.
In mitigation, the woman's lawyer said her client's offence was committed out of desperation to end the affair, as she was worried the wife would find out and terminate her employment.
She also did not sustain the lie for a long period of time, and the man was not arrested nor placed on bail.
For giving false information to a public officer, an offender can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both.
