The Health Sciences Authority on March 21 raided an HDB flat at Beo Crescent on a tip-off about illegal manufacturing and storing of health products in the unit.

HSA seized more than 18,000 units of prescription medicines and supplements for sexual enhancement, equipment and related paraphernalia, as well as 30 e-vaporisers and components. The total seizure value was estimated to be about $51,000.

The seized equipment and paraphernalia were used for the manufacture of capsules. They included a blister pack sealing machine, capsule-filling machine, empty gelatine capsules, empty bottles and containers, and printed labels for various sexual enhancement products.

A 36-year-old male suspect is assisting HSA with investigations for the suspected illegal manufacture and supply of sexual enhancement products, and sale of e-vaporisers.

HSA's Enforcement Branch director Annie Tan said: "Health products made in non-licensed facilities can pose an immense health risk.

"The products are produced under poor manufacturing conditions with no quality controls.

"There is no knowing what the capsules contain, and the consequences can be dire should this illegal manufacturing facility not be disrupted and shut down."

To-date, HSA has not detected the sale of these illegally manufactured sexual enhancement products online. HSA has alerted local e-commerce and social media platforms to put in place measures to prevent the online listing of these illegally manufactured products.

Anyone caught importing, manufacturing and/or supplying illegal health products can be jailed up to two years and/or fined up to $50,000.

It is also an offence to import, distribute, sell or offer for sale e-vaporisers and their components. Offenders can be fined up to $10,000 and/or jailed up to six months for the first offence, and fined up to $20,000 and/or jailed up to 12 months for subsequent offence.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any illegal activity involving health products to the Enforcement Branch of HSA at Tel: 6866-3485 during office hours (Monday to Friday) or send an e-mail to hsa_is@hsa.gov.sg
