'I have a tray of real mealworms. How ah?': TikToker's accidental meal amuses netizens

@therealtrafflock bought a turkey leg with mealworms, thinking that the worms were a crispy rice snack.

It has been approved for consumption in Singapore for more than a year now, but many are still not used to the idea of eating worms - as evidenced by the online reaction to a man who accidentally bought mealworms.

In a video posted on Oct 13, TikToker @therealtrafflock said he bought a turkey leg with mealworms at a stall at Universal Studios Singapore, thinking that the worms were a crispy rice snack.

"Guys, so I bought the turkey leg with mealworms (a special for USS's Halloween Horror Nights) and the girl kept asking me, do you want more mealworms? So I said, ya la, I paid $18 for this," he says.

He keeps telling her to add more, drawing a few stares from the server, until he realises they are indeed real mealworms. "So I have a tray of real mealworms," he says, displaying the worms that look nothing like crispy rice snacks.

"How ah?" he adds.

He then tries eating one of the mealworms, grimacing as he does as the subtitles, "Instant regret, tastes like fish food", appear.

The 49-second clip had garnered 276,100 views, 13,300 reactions and 152 comments at press time.

"Back then in p3 meal worms were used for science project - now they are being eaten at uss., said one TikToker.

"Lmao I forgot eating these worms are legal now in sg," said another.

Yet another said: "I saw the foods and i instantly decided i wasn't hungry throughout the night cause … real meal worms?"

Some quipped that mealworms were hamster snacks, but not all were against eating them, with some pointing out that they are available in supermarkets.

One part of the video left some viewers curious.

"Taste like Fish food!! How'd u even know!! U funny!" said one user. "How you know how fish food tastes like?" asked another.
