Isis-linked group beheads Frenchman abducted in Algeria: video
Jihadists linked to the Islamic State group beheaded a Frenchman abducted in Algeria in a video posted online on Wednesday.
The killing comes after the jihadists gave a 24-hour deadline to Paris.
Mr Herve Gourdel, a 55-year-old hiker from the southern French city of Nice, was kidnapped on Sunday by Jund al-Khilifa.
The jihadits demanded that France stop its air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in Iraq (Isis).
Mr Gourdel was apparently taken within hours of an Isis spokesman releasing an audio message to its supporters around the world urging them to target Westerners from countries in the US-led coalition against ISIS, "especially the spiteful and filthy French".
Last week, French President Francois Hollande announced his nation would join the campaign in Iraq by launching airstrikes against Isis targets, ABC News reported.
The US has launched nearly 200 airstrikes against Isis in recent weeks.
